Identity Design
RateMyArea is a website which allows its users to find, review, share and discuss all that’s good (and not so good) in their area. The signature design conveys the fact that the service very much revolves around user input and location.
Character Design
The character is used in a number of scenarios and it’s an important part of the Rate My Area identity. Over time he was nicknamed The Dude (no relation to The Dude from The Great Lebowski).
How It Works Graphics
Later on in the project the Daily Deals section has been added to the website. The icons below were used to illustrate how the coupons and offers work.
User Status Icons
User profile icons are part of the award system based on users contribution level which provides a status within RateMyArea.com online community.
They are displayed on users profile page.
Website UI & Visual Design
RateMyArea.com are an old friend. We started working together on the identity, icons and print designs back in 2006. Since then, the needs of the website have evolved, and in 2013 there was a need to make some changes and refresh the website UI and visual design.
Below are some screenshots of the new website UI and visual design work I did with Rate My Area. Some of the Dude graphics are still in use, like the user status icons, but others didn’t make it into the new site. That said, the new site maintains the existing identity which successfully blends in into a more modern and streamlined interface.
Client Comments:
"Denis is an excellent designer - his ability to think outside the box coupled with his expert knowledge of the web and the latest design trends makes Denis an extremely valuable member of any web project team, and one we are very pleased to have working on RateMyArea. I couldn't recommend 38one highly enough."
