Place your bid?

Previous entry was about London’s Olympic Games logo, and I can’t ignore the fact that it has a great competition! Olympic Games are all about fair play, and to respect that free olympic spirit, I’ve posted the logos of all the chosen Candidate Cities. London, Madrid, Moscow, New York and Paris will compete for the chance to host the 2012 Olympic Games.

Which city would win if the criteria was based only on their logo design?

In alphabetical order:

LONDON

London 2012 logo
Devised by Kino Design, winners of a contest which attracted 1,100 entries, the logo features a multi-coloured ribbon following the course of the River Thames and weaving through the words “London 2012”.

Andy Stanfield, of Kino Design :
“We are delighted that our design has been chosen to represent London’s bid for the 2012 Olympic Games.
“We chose the River Thames because it flows through the centre of London and is the point at which many of the city’s waterways and communities meet.
“It is also symbolic of the people from all over the world that flow in and out of London, defining its style, personality and vibrancy.
“Our aim was to create a flexible logo that was integrated into the words ‘London 2012’ but would be strong enough to stand alone.
“The ribbon delivers that and can be used in many creative ways in the campaign to win the 2012 Olympic Games for London.”

MADRID

Madrid 2012 logo
Evoking the Olympic flame or the energy of a rippling flag, its significance can also be extended to the feelings of elation and passion generated by important events within a community.

The corporate mark for Madrid 2012 is made up of two graphical elements: the symbol and a synthesised version of the “2012” logo, an acronym which joins the year together, the representation in roman numerals of the “thousand” and the initial of the city.

MOSCOW

Moscow 2012 logo
October 03, 2004
Two hundred and fifty thousand people took part in Russia’s National Day of Running on October 3. The themes for this year’s event which was staged in 21 cities were “Sports against Terrorism” and Moscow’s 2012 bid for the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

As part of its campaign for the 2012 Games Moscow organized a VIP race over 2012 metres, which included Irina Rodnina, three time Olympic Figure Skating Champion.
This was very recently so I couldn’t find more details about th logo, but I hope that that will not change the result.

NEW YORK

New York 2012 logo
“Our goal was to create a symbol for New York’s Olympic bid that would be instantly understood by anyone who saw it from anywhere around the world. The image speaks to the ethos of a city celebrating the Olympic Spirit, and nothing could say it better for New York than the image of the Statue of Liberty, with her outstretched arm holding the torch, joined to the arm of an athlete lifted in celebration.”

PARIS

Paris 2012 logo
Paris 2012 believes their bid depends on the entire nation gathering together to support this candidacy and claim its “Amour des Jeux”.
